Is Armed conflict an Option for Southern Cameroon?
Recently a friend sought
my thoughts on the call by a section of Southern Cameroonians to wage armed for
selfish determination. I said I support the struggle of South Cameroon because
I believe it is based on a genuine grievance whether real or perceived. South
Cameroon has many options and rights including starting its own force (may not
be an army); it equally has an option to wage armed conflict in search of self-rule.
Now, not all that is right and possible is good and
strategic. One needs to, for instance, ask, at what cost and for what end will
war be? What are the chances of meeting the object of the struggle of South
Cameroon through waging armed conflict? War is and should always be a last
resort. As at now the questions should be: What is the cost of armed conflict?
What do the people of South Cameroon want to achieve? Are there other
alternatives to achieve it? What can they achieve through such alternatives and
within what time? etc. I guess as at now investing in such alternatives as
diplomatic pressure may have higher reward than armed conflict.
