History Condemns us to a Regional Security Complex
Those who
know the history and dynamics of the Horn of Africa and its complex ties with
the Arabian Gulf understand that some countries' security is tied to the
security of their neighbors. The more the ties in the region become even
increasingly important and complex, with security, political, economic and
humanitarian considerations the more the long-term future remains uncertain. My
take is that countries like Kenya are never going to fix their own security
predicament outside the regional security complex paradigm. In order to fix
Kenya, you must fix Somalia, in order to fix Somalia you must fix Ethiopia
together with Eritrea, Djibouti and the larger Gulf, from Yemen to Qatar and
ultimately to Saudi Arabia and Iran.
