If the Ethiopian Experiment fails, Rwanda should stand well on Notice

Abiy Ahmed Ali inherited a country that was on its deadbed which he has been attempting resuscitate. He came with his reformist agenda which certainly has inspired new hope for Ethiopia and Ethiopians. I spoke to some Ethiopians in Kenya, Uganda and Addis Ababa and their excitement was palpable. Those at hope expressed great hope and those in the diaspora started returning back home. Recently, the country has entered into another phase; a phase shrouded with uncertainty. No expert will, for certain predict what Ethiopia will become in the near future, leave alone the Zenawi’s long term ‘renaissance.’ If they did, be sure to know they are possibly being untruthful. If Ethiopia succeeds, I really hope it does, we shall have a case study to demonstrate how countries in the third world can turn around. If it does not, it will be very bad news but a great lesson for Rwanda. What Paul Kagame is attempting in Rwanda is what Meles Zenawi was trying in Ethiopia. The death of Zenawi meant a power vacuum that become too difficult to fill, Kagame is busy doing the same.
